USA Cycling schedules first spring junior track SuperCamp

COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. (Mar. 14, 2000) -- USA Cycling announced Tuesday that an agreement has been reached with The Superdrome in Frisco, Texas to produce the inaugural junior track cycling Supercamp in May. The camp is part of the USAC regional camps development program that includes the Marty Nothstein Junior Olympic Track race series and the Lance Armstrong Junior Olympic race series (road cycling). Athletes must qualify for this camp through either the Marty Nothstein or Lance Armstrong races. The Supercamp will take place May 10-14.

"This will be the first National Development Camp specifically for track athletes as well as road athletes who feel they may be able to compete on the track" said David Mayer-Oakes, USA Cycling Athlete Development Manager. "We are excited about this program. Our national team coaches, Des Dickie (sprint), Danny Van Haute (junior) and Craig Griffin (endurance) will provide knowledge and expertise at the spring camp. With their help this camp will be the chance for up-and-coming junior cyclists to really showcase their talents."

Qualified athletes should contact Mayer-Oakes (719/578-4845) for information. The Supercamp will include identification events, classroom, racing and physiological testing.

The Superdrome in Frisco has hosted numerous major cycling events in recent years, including the 1999 EDS World Cup of Cycling, 1999 USCF Masters National Track Cycling Championships, 1998 EDS Elite National Track Cycling Championships and several EDS Track Cups. The Superdrome will also be home to the 2000 U.S. Olympic Track Cycling Trials (Apr. 25-29).

USA Cycling is the national governing body for the sport of cycling in the United States, and has more than 90,000 members. The USCF is the road and track cycling association within USA Cycling.
