CLARK AND KRAYZELBURG WIN THEIR FIRST USOC ATHLETE OF THE MONTH AWARDS; WOMEN'S BOBSLED TEAM CAPTURES TEAM AWARD.

COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO. -- The United States Olympic Committee has named Olympic marathon runner Christine Clark (Anchorage, Alaska) and swimmer Lenny Krayzelburg (Los Angeles, Calif.) as Athletes of the Month for March, and the Women's Bobsled Team as its Team of the Month winner. Clark, who upset a highly talented field to win the Women's Olympic Marathon Trials, won the award by receiving 24 voting points. Krayzelburg, who led the FINA 1999-2000 World Cup Series in February, received 31 points. The Women's Bobsled Team brought home the silver medal from the Women's World Bobsled Championships in Winterburg, Germany to capture 28 voting points and win the team award.

Clark posted a personal best time of 2:33.31 at the Olympic Marathon Trials held February 26 in Columbia, S.C. Dr. Christine Clark is a pathologist and is the first U.S. female track and field athlete to qualify for the 2000 Olympic Games. This is Clark's first Athlete of the Month Award.

Krayzelburg won the 100m and 200m backstroke categories and finished second in the 50m backstroke in the FINA World Cup Series. He broke world records twice in February in the 100m and 200m backstrokes. This is also Krayzelburg's first ever Athlete of the Month Award.

Other than winning the silver medal at the Women's World Championships the Women's Bobsled Team took the gold at the Final World Cup event, leaving them the number-one ranked bobsled team in the world. Team driver Jean Racine (Waterford, Mich.) is also ranked the number one driver in the world (setting a new world record). Her brakeman is Jennifer Davison (Layton, Utah).
